Accuracy

All calculations are performed using NASA JPL precision algorithms via our astronomical calculation engine — the gold standard in astronomical computation, ensuring precision to the arc-second. We support multiple house systems: Placidus, Koch, Equal, Whole Sign, Campanus, Regiomontanus, and others.

Our Methodology

Every chart on AstroMya is computed from first principles using the Swiss Ephemeris, the same astronomical engine used by professional astrologers and research astronomers. Positions are accurate to the arc-second across the entire 1800–2400 date range. We use the tropical zodiac (measured from the vernal equinox), which is the standard for Western astrology. House systems are user-selectable — the default is Placidus, with Koch, Equal, Whole Sign, Campanus, Regiomontanus, Porphyry, and Topocentric also available.

Aspects and Orbs

We calculate the seven classical Ptolemaic aspects (conjunction, opposition, trine, square, sextile, quincunx, semi-sextile) plus selected minor aspects. Orbs follow conservative defaults based on widely-cited traditional ranges (8° for conjunction/opposition, 6° for trine/square, 4° for sextile), and are adjustable in Pro features. Retrograde motion, rulership, and dignity are all factored into interpretive output.

Time Zones and Historical Data

Birth time calculations use the full IANA timezone database and historical DST rules, so a chart for 1962 in Moscow uses 1962 Moscow time, not 2026 offsets. This matters — a 15-minute error at sunrise can shift your Ascendant and all house cusps by a full sign.
